What is your take on , " if you want to change the world, change the person in the mirror"?

In other words if you want to change the world, be the change you want to see!
What is your take on , %26quot; if you want to change the world, change the person in the mirror%26quot;?
My take in this is that change starts within ourselves. This is especially true if you're a leader. You cannot expect change to happen to others if you do not take the lead. And, to demand the world to change, while we just sit and watch doing nothing, is not only selfish but also wishful thinking. Why wishful thinking? Because no matter how the world progresses, if we do not adapt to the times, then we will just be left behind.

There were also some very good answers from others as well!

change what you can, accept that you are not able to control all things.
Very simply, we can only control our attitude and our actions. We can't change anyone else's.
That only works if everybody in the world follows that philosophy.

Just my opinion.
if we don't like some part of us we are looking for change in the world around us
The world is the world. It can't be changed by changing the world.

The only thing you can change is yourself.

If you let the world change who you are, then you have lost!
This issue brings to mind the old saying you have to practice what you preach. Sometimes the best way to help others is to try and make yourself the best person that you can be. If you come to the end of your life and you finally feel that you have achieved that, that you have been the best person that you can be than by doing that you have helped others in the process.

IF YOU WANT TO SAVE THE WORLD THEN THE BEST PLACE TO START IS YOUR OWN BACKYARD!
That is one of the few tenants of Confucianism I agree with. I like the long version better: If you want to change the world, change your country, if you want to change your country, change your state, if you want to change your state, change your city, if you want to change your city, change your household, if you want to change your household, change yourself.

It really holds true. People just don't realize the effects of their actions.
there is a similar chinese proverb.

%26quot; if you cant control yourself and family, how can you rule the world.%26quot;

my take is

%26quot; the real revolution is only within your heart %26quot;

another possible one is

%26quot;my mirror is true battle ground where my heart fights against the illusions my ego created.%26quot;
Your quote is true and I agree with you.

I would like to add the following Jewish quotations from Hillel:

If I am not for myself, who will be? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?

This quote means that we must care about ourselves and also the world - both are equally important.

That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation; go and learn.

This quote is the basis of the golden rule which is love your neighbor as yourself.

I don't know if Hillel said the following quote, but it is a famous quote from Judaism.

Saving a life is as if you have saved the world. This quote shows the sanctity and importance of the life of every human being.
