That is hard to say and I would dare to say neither. It just is. A lot of people like to fantasize about the past because it is gone and they cannot accurately remember it lol. For example, people say that there is so much more evil now than there was in the past but think about it, there was extreme racism, sanctioned murders (lynchings that had trials that were a joke), slavery, rape, molestation, prostitution, etc. All those things have always existed and continue to exist so I don't think that someone can claim that the 50s were better (forgetting that minorities, women, and Whites that supported minorities were being prosecuted). And one reason for it seeming to be worse is that there are more people so more good and more bad, and because of our electronic culture you can see the bad much more easily than in the past.
