Nobody's tried to assassinate a US Prez since that nutter with the Jodie Foster complex took a pop at Reagan. (Jodie Foster? Why did nobody tell him how badly he was wasting his time?) We're overdue another crack at a Prez... with something less symbolic than size ten shoes.
I hate to say it, but even before being elected I sense a real visceral hatred for Obama from the usual suspects. right-wing nutjobs, dissaffected republicans, Islamophobes, pro-Israelis... if there are odds out, I might punt a tenner on Obama not survivng the end of his term in office. Sorry to say. If it looks like he's going to make a real difference, there are lots of shady, rich and influential people prepared to take him out before he does.

This is only the first sign of change to come - be it good or bad. People are calling Obama a messiah where others are calling him the anti-christ. Truth is people, neither are true. He is simply a man who has so much on his plate and people are thinking that he - and only he - will be able to cure the world's problems. It takes more than one man - it takes a nation to stand behind him in order for it to work.
the golden rule is:
He who has the gold MAKES the rules-
always has been, always will be.
presidents have very little control over what happens in the U.S.- they might be able to have a small impact, but world events are what control.
if we did not enter into world war 2, fdr would probably be hailed as an ineffective president- he made programs to help- but the manufacturing and spark of industry that came with entering into world war 2 was what brought the economy back form teh depression.
people are putting too much expectations on obama- whetehr he turns out to be a good president or not, a president ANY president, only has limited control over U.S. events.
the legislature has far more control over the future.
obama is just the face who will get credit if things take a positive turn, and the face to blame if things stay the same or get worse.
The antichrist will claim to bring peace to the whole world too- however, Christ is the only one that will do that , my friend. Obama wants tolerance with all religions, etc- living at peace is not tolerating things that are wrong, for the sake of peace. We cannot forget that peace is not the absence of trouble but it is the calm in trouble.
Let us hope so.After all hope is the one thing we
